1980 - 1990

(1980) A desire for a broader color palet, Les went from highfire reduction firings to oxidation firings for the wider color posibilitys. Highfire porcelain sculpture that were assembled by pinning the carved pieces with stainless steel rods. The stainless is capable of withstanding high firing. The clay shrinkage tightened aginst the steel giving a strong secure bond.

1982 Les and Jaye began attending art fairs in Southern California and Arizona. Most shows were in the  West LA and Beverly Hills area. They also showed in Scottsdale, AZ They showed at numerous American Crafts Council national faires in Baltimore, San Francisco, and New York.

Les was producing a series of colorful plates in various sizes along with bowls, no cups. At one of the Baltimore ACC shows a buyer from Neiman Marcus liked them and in short time his work appeared in all of their stores.

The plates proved very popular and he actively made them for about eight more years. The second series of plates were different in shape and concept of image design. They were made in small numbers.

(1989) Les and Jaye traveled to New Zealand at the invitation of The New Zealand Potters Association for a six weeks workshop tour. He demonstrated his stiff slab wire pinning technique he was working with. The tour was exciting for Les and Jaye as they received the warmest or hospatality from the NZ potters.

The sculpture shown in the newspaper was purchased for Southern Connecticut State University Art Collection.
